Where should I stay in Valbonë?

In one of the guesthouses or small lodges spread along the valley floor — there is nothing else. Valbonë is a national park valley at the opposite end of the pass from Theth, most often reached by the Komani Lake ferry, and its accommodation is as limited as Theth's.

Where should I stay in Valbonë?A national park valley at the far end of the Theth pass, reached by the Komani Lake ferry. Guesthouses and small lodges only, and very few of them.

Where in the valley

Valbonë is a valley rather than a village, and accommodation is strung along it. Staying further up puts you closer to the pass trailhead and further from the road; staying lower is easier to reach and a longer walk on crossing day.

Places are small, family-run and usually serve dinner, because the valley has few restaurants. Half board is the norm rather than an upsell.

Getting there — the ferry is the point

The usual approach is the Komani Lake ferry: an early transfer from Shkodër to the boat, a passenger crossing through a steep reservoir gorge, then a road transfer up the valley. It takes most of a day and people take it as an experience rather than as transport.

The alternative is walking in over the pass from Theth. Either way, plan a night in Shkodër before you start.

When it is open

Broadly June to October for the pass, with the wider season running from around May. The valley itself is snowbound in winter and most guesthouses close.

July and August fill, both here and in Theth. Because you need beds at both ends of the crossing on consecutive nights, this is the leg of an Albanian trip to book first and build everything else around.
